I begin as I ended my last entry: with a howl. I have been known to wail at the moon on the odd occasion! I am wolfy like that!! Yep, I am kind of a lone wolf, a loner, but the more I learn about artists via my theory studies the more I finally realise how the artist is a group I do belong to!! One hugely dysfunctional brother/sisterhood!! Aaaaah, to function in disfunction …now there is a motto to emblazon upon your chest!!!

But hold, forgive me because I really haven’t fully introduced myself so brace yourself because here goes:

Pleased to meet you
Hope you guessed my name, um yeah
But what’s puzzling you
Is the nature of my game, um baby, get down

Named after the saints: Andrew & Peter, with a pretty picturesque surname: Swanepoel (Dutch origin – my father’s side; describing, u guessed it, the original ancestor who lived next to a pool with a swan on it). Very hectic mixed breed: the self-deprecating humour of the Irish, hotbloodedness of the Spanish and the quirkiness of the Dutch and obstinancy of the Afrikaaner!!

My father died very young, leaving a wife (23) and 2 kids (6 & 5). This was a trauma that forged a very close and strong family unit where each day was a struggle. We didn’t have a lot but we had each other. This was apartheid South Africa where divorce just didn’t happen and mom’s didn’t work so we were odd! No father and a mom who worked!!

My neighbourhood was a conglomeration of lower to middleclass families; mostly government workers and artisans. Rough is the word that springs to mind. I was stabbed in standard 7 (grade 9) in an after school fight so that kind of gives you an idea.

So if you meet me
Have some courtesy
Have some sympathy, and some taste
Use all your well-learned politesse
Or I’ll lay your soul to waste, um yeah

They say you are either a Stones fan or a Beatles one. I think I have shown where my allegiance  lies (see quote) although at least the Beatles had the sense (ala Yoko, an artist!) to call it quits when they were still cool while the Stones haven’t produced anything worthwhile since the 70’s.

Anyway, like a rolling stone, don’t want to gather no moss so I gotta go!
